Marketing Department


Waymaker Group is searching for a talented and experienced copywriter to assist our marketing team on a contract basis. The ideal candidate will be a passionate storyteller with a strong understanding of technology-based economic development and innovation. In this role, you will be responsible for creating a variety of marketing and communications materials, including website copy, blog posts, case studies, and client-facing deliverables.

Waymaker Group is a full-service technology-based economic development firm focused on helping city leaders plan and fund mixed-use innovation districts. We develop clusters, attract anchor tenants, build diverse talent pipelines, and propel inclusive growth. Our goal is to inspire and engage our clients by taking the time to understand their unique market and introducing them to national innovation district best practices. Ultimately, we work with them to implement funding and programming plans. In the last three years, we’ve grown our portfolio from one city to fifteen and expanded our team to include nationally renowned, hands-on experts. Together, with our clients, we jumpstart innovation districts by securing funding and getting shovels in the ground in half the time.

  • Develop compelling and informative copy that aligns with Waymaker Group's brand voice and messaging

  • Conduct research to gather information for content creation

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop content strategy

  • Write clear, concise, and grammatically correct copy

  • Meet deadlines and adhere to editorial guidelines

  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices

  • 20 hours per week availability (this is an independent contractor position)



  • 3-5 years of experience as a copywriter or a related field

  • Strong understanding of technology-based economic development and innovation

  • Excellent writing skills with a focus on clarity, conciseness, and grammar

  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and work independently

  • Experience with SEO best practices a plus

  • Must provide copywriting portfolio with professional work samples

Contract Rate & Benefits

  • The Copywriter role is as-needed remote contract (10-20 hr/wk) position. Hourly contract rates range from $50-70/hr. Work hours are flexible within project deadlines.
