Economic Development Consultants
Overview
Waymaker Group is looking for new team members to join our fast-growing consulting firm of dynamic individuals working to expand innovation districts across the U.S. We are seeking candidates with backgrounds in traditional economic development and/or technology-based economic development. This role involves working closely with clients to assess economic conditions, identify opportunities for growth, and develop initiatives that leverage technology to enhance economic development. Projects may include innovation/market studies, strategic planning, cluster coalition & program development, program implementation, funding identification & pursuit, and real estate programming & design guidance. A strong candidate will utilize creativity and subject-matter expertise to conceptulaize and then develop deliverables that meet the clients needs. Waymaker Group’s team is committed to supporting each other and, as with many small businesses, your job responsibilities will vary and will not be confined to the specific responsibilities outlined for this role.
We are seeking multiple candidates with subject-matter expertise in a number of different topic areas including:

Research and Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on economic trends, technology innovations, and market conditions to inform strategic recommendations.

Strategic Planning: Develop comprehensive economic development recommendations that incorporate the latest technological advancements and align with clients' long-term visions.

Governance & Organizational Capacity Development: Advise clients on governance models that support tech-based economic development, including nonprofit development, regulatory frameworks, incentives, and public-private partnerships.

Coalition Partner Development: Work with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government officials, business leaders, community organizations, and educational institutions, to build consensus and drive project success.

Economic Impact Assessments: Measure and report on the economic impact of economic development initiatives, using data and analytics to demonstrate success and identify areas for improvement.

Workshops and Training: Develop and deliver workshops, training sessions, and presentations to educate clients and stakeholders on economic development strategies and best practices.

Qualifications

5+ years of experience in economic development (expecially technology-driven initiatives), economics, business, public administration, urban planning, or a related field, preferred.

Deep understanding of economic development principles and practices.

Proficiency in analyzing economic data and market trends.

Knowledge of current and emerging technology trends (biotech, healthcare, cyber, AR, advanced manufacturing, etc.) and their impact on economic growth.

Excellent project management and organizational skills.

Comportable with autonomy while still being able to collaborate in a team setting.

Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

Exceptional communication and presentation skills.

Ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

Experience working in or with government agencies, economic development organizations, or tech companies.

Familiarity with grant writing and funding opportunities for economic development projects.

Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup/entrepreneurial environment.

Strong technological skills and ability to work with a variety of software systems.

Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.

Willingness to work hard and celebrate results with a remote team dedicated to supporting each other and our clients.

Salary & Benefits

The Economic Development Consultant role is a part-time, project-based consultant position and hours will fluctuate. There will be a 90-day trial period at the end of which a review will be conducted and the extension of the initial contract will be discussed.

Consultant fees range from $50-70/hr.

This position is remote with work hours that are flexible but deadline-centric.
