Dr. Hockberger is an internationally recognized scholar in cellular neuroscience, membrane biophysics and signal transduction, cell adhesion and migration, photobiology and phototoxicity.

Dr. Hockberger has three decades of experience at Northwestern University as a scientist, teacher, speaker, and administrator. He has been a visiting research scholar at the Max Planck Institute in Germany and Oxford University in the United Kingdom.

In the past decade, Dr. Hockberger has been recognized internationally for his leadership role in research (core) facilities and for creating a new career path for core scientists. For his contributions to this field, Phil was awarded the ABRF President’s Special Recognition Award in 2017.
